BUILDING & SAFETY DIVISION

Building and Safety is a division of the Community Development Department. The Division provides the overall coordination of functions relative to building construction including: plan check; permit issuance (building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical); building inspection and enforcement of state and local building codes. The City contracts with the County of Los Angeles to provide the employees and expertise to perform this function. With certain exceptions, the 2008 Los Angeles County Building Code based on 2007 California Building Code which is based on 2006 International Building Code is adopted as the City’s Building Code.

For plan check, you typically need 2 sets of complete plans and 2 sets of structural and energy calculations, as required.

Counter hours are Monday through Friday 8 AM. to 10 AM in City Hall. To schedule an inspection on a current permit, please call at least one day prior to the day inspection is requested.
