La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association
Mission Statement
The mission of the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association is to promote and encourage a well-balanced, thriving, and prosperous business & residential community.
We focus on serving as a voice for business, informing the business community of changes in State and local laws and regulations, and conducting a pro-active exchange of information, concerns, and issues of interest to the business community.
The Chamber aims to foster and promote programs designed to improve the City of La Cañada Flintridge as a desirable community in which to live, raise a family and do business, and to provide educational opportunities designed to expand the knowledge of the local business community.
History
The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association was founded over a century ago as a community association intended to bring people together, develop personal relationships and create community for residents and businesses of La Cañada Flintridge and environs.
Chambers in the US, now number over 3000 & have influenced the things we associate with today: improving and promoting our cities and regions. Nearly every important civic improvement of the 19th and early 20th centuries (canal building, railroads, highway construction, air travel, industrial development, tourism & city planning) were either helped along by chambers of commerce or invented by them.
There is much to learn from studying these enduring civic organizations. One thing is how consistent we have been and how effective over the years.
Since our origin in 1912 we have made many changes to keep pace with the ever-evolving world around us and to better serve our local community. One of the key elements that supports our longevity is we have learned to be a dependable partner without becoming a dominating presence. Every major development in our area since 1912 has the mark of our chamber’s involvement. Our advocacy on behalf of the millions of small business owners across the state and country that powers our economy may well be our lasting legacy.
We are an advocate for business. Each member has a “vote” when the chamber supports a bill or measure or ordinance. When the leadership of your local chamber speaks out on your behalf our collective voice is heard, this is powerful.
We are a watchdog for residents. Again, our collective voice representing all of our residential members with a major utility, the state or our own city carries a significant statement on your behalf.
Thus, our motto: “Big Enough to Serve You, Small Enough to Care.”
I encourage you to join us. Become part of a growing presence in our area and have a major impact upon the development of our community, now and for generations to come. What is your legacy?
City of La Cañada Flintridge
La Cañada Flintridge means “glen between the hills.” We were incorporated as a general law city on Nov. 30, 1976. A low-key lifestyle centered on children and community is central to the city’s 20,501 residents. The La Cañada Unified School District consistently ranks in the top five percent of California schools. Houses of worship and a variety of service organizations are an integral part of the community with volunteers contributing more than 250,000 hours to civic causes each year.
has always been known for its strong sense of community and civic pride. We enjoy one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Public safety is provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. La Cañada Flintridge is home to the world-renowned Jet Propulsion Laboratories, an 18-hole golf course (La Cañada Flintridge Country Club), an L.A. County Public Library, Descanso Gardens (botanical collections and seasonal horticultural displays), The Lanterman House (a historical museum and veritable time capsule of early 20th century Southern California), a community center with an extensive curriculum and activities for all ages, an active Chamber of Commerce for residents as well as business, city hall and a beautiful town center with shops and restaurants.
There are approximately 24 miles of city and county trails that wind through the town and surrounding foothills. The riding and hiking trails contribute greatly to the town’s semi-rural atmosphere and quality of life. The multi-use recreational trails attract hikers, equestrians, bicyclists, dog walkers, runners and everyone wishing to enjoy the beauty of nature so close to home. In 2010, the 40-year effort to close the gap in the city-core circular trail was realized with the completion of the 12 mile “loop trail.” With many conveniently marked trail access points, trail users can circumnavigate the entire system from neighborhoods both north and south of Foothill Boulevard.
